SUBJECT: 'In Situ Nicotine Transfer from Wet to Dry Tobacco
A 5.Og portion of Burley leaf (Grade 11) containing
2.32% nicotine was mixed with 2.5g water and allowed to
stand for 1 hr. The tobacco was placed into a 1 Q beaker
sectioned into two parts by a wire mesh screen. Into the
other section was placed 5.Og of the Burley leaf which
was not moistened. A 700m1 portion of hexane was added
to the beaker and the mixture stirred magnetically for
3 hours.
The tobacco was removed and air dried. Leaf analys*
indicated no change in nicotine content of the dry tobacco'.
