Abstract
A woman writes to the chairman of RJR's board to complain about a "Special Gift for the Holiday Season" sent to her mother, whose husband died of tobacco-related disease one year before. The writer states her mother, who never smoked cigarettes, was recently diagnosed with emphysema and her radiologist "describes her test results equivalent to that of a heavy 30 year smoker." The writer copied the letter to the U.S. Surgeon General and the editor of U.S.A. Today.
