SAMPLE LETTER "B°" January 27, 1983 Dear In recent weeks and months, a number of airlines have been urged to ban smoking, entirely on up to a third of their domestic flights. The group making this request,, "Action on Smoking and Health" and its leader, John Banzhaf, are:using airline stockholder meetings as their forum. It should come as no surprise that I personally, and (company) corporately oppose such:restrictio.ns. Moreover, we continue to find a gpod number of airline executivesc unsympathetic to requests which have such profounde negative marketing and!operational ramifications. Oiur two industries have workediclosely and successfully opposing federal interference inithis area. As we face what may be a new round of challenges, I would like:to pledge my personal support and! that of my company's as ( a!irLine ) considers the issue. If we can be of help, please!call. In the meantime, I have takenn the liberty of asking,The TobaccolInstitute, our representatives in Washington, to contact your corporate relations staff to disc;uss the prospee:t of cuuperative actiuLi. Sincerely,
