It has come to my attention that (airline) is one of
several airlines being asked, perhaps pressuredi, to banismoking
entirely on up to althird of their domestic flights.
As you must be aware, the effort is being,conduicted by a group
known as "Action on Smoking andi Health" and by its leader, John
Banzhaf, a local law professor who undertakes suchiventures asa
class projects.
Our two industries have worked closely and successfully in
opposing further federal regulation of smoking on aircraft. As we
fa~ce these: new challenges, I would like to pledlg,e my personal
support and that of my company's as you deal with Mr. Banzhaf''s
urgings.
If we can be of'help, please call. In the meantime, I have takenn
the liberty of asking The Tobacco Institute, our representatives
in Washington...
