Beta Carotene
Abstract
This 1982 internal Philip Morris memo written by R.B. Seligman (Vice President of Research and Development at Philip Morris) notes the existence of research indicating that beta carotene may be "a deterrent for the formation of lung cancer in humans." He follows up on suggestions that "this material be added to cigarettes for direct application to the lungs."

There has been a lot written recently concerning beta carotene as a deterrent for the formation of lung cancer in humans. Of course, it has been suggested that this material be added to cigarettes for direct application to the lungs. Before considering that, of major concern is the thermo-stability of this compound.
Recently, I discussed this briefly with Ted Sanders who thought the transfer of intact beta carotene was possible although he would not speculate on the extent.
Would it be feasible to conduct a rough experiment which might delineate the degree of transfer fromteh filler in a burning cigarette?
Please advise.
