We do not use this n~tcri~, nor do I know at this time whether any of the competition, uses it. At one time Philip .Morris advertised its use on the grounds that it reduced acroleln, which they surmised would be produced in CELANDO. I have forgotten the time, but nzzny years ago this material was used to form a-solution of sulfanilamide and marketed as elixir of sulfanilamide. Our Government considered this misbranded because of the use of the word "elixir. °~ This was freely offered on the market w/th disastrous results, and there were quite a number of deaths from it. It was withdrawn, but it was not estab- Jished at that tim,, whether it was the sulfanilamlde or the FABRACE or the combination of the two. The activify of the use of this material in tobacco wa~s.ahead nf World War II, and because of its adverse publicity it was elected by us that we would not use thls material /n spite of the econon~cs and reasonably good .plas'Ucizing properties.
