~ectl YOUNGER ADULT SMOKERS -- TERMINOLOGY
As you all know, the objectives of RJR's marketing activities are
to convince ex~stlng smokers to select our brands rather than
~ompetitlon's. More to the point, it is not our business to
~i~i~ .yate people to start smoking, partlcu~-~ly minors. To smoke
~i~i~i~!~ibt to smoke is a personal decision which we do no~ try to
~i~M~h this policy, it is important that we do not do anything
that would leave the false impression that our real intentions
ia.re otherwise. The r~sk area here is in the references we make
i.~i~!i~hr written co~munlcatlons regarding the y~unger .adult smoker
~@!~@n additional thought, I would also suggest that we all begin
/5~"~~g this terminology in our oral communication, both formal and
~,~rmal. By doing so, we'll develop a good habit that will reflect
,i~if in our written communications.
~i~se discuss this with your peopl~ and assure that they under-
:~i~.~and this new terminology, the rationale behind it, and that
i~i~ put it into practlqe immediately.
Thanks for Your cooperation.
