This proposal is concerned with the factors that may activate or suppress the cytotoxicity of T lymphocytes (CTL). At this time major concern is being given to the suppression and the study of small molecular weight substances, particu7arly amino acids. FJ macrophagea are added to P lymphocytes and when added in adequate numbers will suppress the CTh. The suppressive agent will pass through millipore membranes. At the time of the report indications were that a deficiency of small molecular weight nutriments in the media or a surplus of their metabolites were involved in the suppression. Aspar.agine was required for activation and alanine was suppressive. Three papers on related subjects that v,ere not supported by the gxant were listed. Progress seems adequate. The continuation proposed is acceptable. The budget is somewhat, but reasonably, increased. Sonsiderable support is available from other sciurces. W, U. G. WW/ab
