TiiF: Cortico. FonToBncco Bc. RKQT 724055 April 13, 1976 MEMORANDUM TO: Drs. Hockett, Jacobson, Meier, Sommers and Stone FROM: W. U. Gardner SUBJECT: Application 1084. Gerard M. Turino, M.D., College of Physicians & Surgeonsp Columbia University, New York, N.Y. "Chemical Basis of Tissue Destruction in Obstructive Lung Disease." Attached are copies of letters from Dr. Godman and Dr. Turino. They are, I believe, self-explanatory. When Dr. Turino called to state that Dr. Fierer was leaving he proposed the changes indicated in the letter and I suggested that he put it in the form of a requested rhange with curricula vitae of the additional personnel. Cerreta will get his Ph.D. this year. He has his name on two abstracts of papers that have been presented and one more definitive piece of work in prqcess of publication. II have known Dr. Godman for a numlaer of years and would agree with Dr. Turino's dppraisal of his competence. I rer:ommend that the changes be approved and the grant activated with their inclusion. I suggest that the starting date be made July 1 although the original request was for January 1. W.U.G. WUG:ek atts.
