Bing, Ford, Hockett, Jacobson, Sommers and Stone FROb1: W. U. Gardner SUBJECT: Application 1201R2. Louis A. Soloff, M.D., Tenple University, Philadelphia, Pa. "Immunoassay of Lecithin Cholesterol Acyltransferase after Eating and Smoking in Health and Atherosclerosis." Progress. The first two pages of the progress rep'ort refer to the work of other laboratories that have been working on the isolation and purification of LCAT. The assumption was made that the activity was oxidized during concentration so most of the steps are now being done under N and oxidization inhibitors added. He claims a 150,000x increase in activity. We have been. getting smaller increases announced for a number of years. The work on persons with abnormal thyroid function and.on unusual diet is not mentioned. I just cannot see much evidence of real progress. Projection. MoTe of the same. Budget. He is requesting a new power supply and a fraction collector: $3,800. He requests about $5,000 more than projected. We don't have a c.v. of the "Research Instructor" who will probably be doing most of the work. Come>nt. This'has been a comparatively non-productive appli.cation for a number of years. He does not give references to the four persons who have been working on LCAT: Albers, University of Washington. Scanu, Oniversity of Chicago. Fielding, Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California, San Francisco. Nishida, Burnsides Research Laboratory, Department of Food Sciences, University of Illinois. He might be asked to supply these references. I think that this should be included in the book. It's an unusually non-informative application and progress report. , . W. U. Gardner WUG:ek
