Dear Dr. Weisburger:
Enclosed is a manuscript for submission to the Journal of the National
Cancer Institute (JNCI) entitled "Chronic Inhalation Studies in Mice II. The
Effects of Long-Term Exposure of 2R1 Cigarette Smoke to BC3F1/Cum Mice," by
Carol J. Henry and Richard E. Kouri.
Following conversations with you and Dr. R. Adamson, it was suggested that
we address the following issue. The work presented in this manuscript was
performed under contract from The Council for Tobacco Research -- U.S.A., Inc.
(CTR). A Final Report describing these studies was submitted to CTR. As a
result of reqyests for copies of this rather extensive report, CTR elected to
print the final report verbatim in bound book form for general dissemination.
The work presented in this manuscript has not been published in any journal.
We appreciate your noting to us the recent letter by F. Homburger in the
August issue of JNCI. If appropriate, reference to this work will be made in
the final version.
Given the nature of the work described in this paper, the following
individuals would seem to be appropriate reviewers:
1. Dr. Richard Greismer, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
2. Dr. Paul Nettesheim, NIEHS
3. Dr. Curtis Harris, NCI
4. Dr. Ted.MeLemore, NCI
S. Dr. Mary Argus, EPA
6. Dr. Hans-Peter Witschi, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
