A composite of the suggestions and coreaents received follorst
#1. Table I, first footnote. It is snggested that the l.ast
three words be deleted since 'SsicroinYasire cancer" is
not mentioned elsevbere in the tezt oar legends for figmres,
nor in the opinion of the reviewers, is it svpported by
exaainat3on of the illustrations.
2. Page 2, liae 8. The esposureof six Rri-1 simultaneously
is mentioned. It shouLd be borne in mind that the dosage
of smoke received by an individual aaiasal nay be affected by
the number being exposed, on account of differences in the
rate of smoke chanber depletion and dilution of the cham-
ber contents by COZ " other eshaled prodncts.
3. Page 2, line 21. Snoke dilution factor. It should be made
clear that the dilution factor is an estimate only. Lea.kape,
speed sasi efficiency of nixing aaoke and alr aixl other factors
may introduce inacciaacies. Only direct aeasuaement under
operating conditions can give a highly reliable figtre for
concentration of szoke at the point of insalation.
4. Page 3, line 2. This estiaate of saoke concentration received
by hman smokers is a plawible estimate vhich probably lies
vitb.in the range, but it anst be recognized that indiridual
vasiations are quite large and there is ao established 'arerage'
based on observations.
5. Yage 6, line 18. The term 'pseudoepithelicmatous bp~perpla+ia'
.+es questioned as to its appropriateness.

6. Page 9, line 9. It is suggested that tLe pbrise "consistent vith
carciaam" be deleted as non-contributory.
v/. Page 12, first paragraph. Until the relative dosages of amcte
received respectively into various parts oi the respiratory tracts
of the Bio 15.16, Bio 87.20 and other strains haye act3ssl]y been
aeas;aed, it seems hazerdovs to conclu3e that ditfereaces in ;
laryngeal response must be dne to ditfezeaces.in tissne snsceptibility.
Strain differences in palnonary nxcbanicr roch as ti,dal tolnu,
minute volume, respiratory rate and erpecially ability and inelin-
ation to suspend respiration could affect saoke dosages in ps.ttl-
cnlar areas.
8. Typogre.pbical notes:
Page 1,;71me 2. "$ecanse" rather than "siace".
Page 2, line 1. American nsage (as contrasted to British) is
to spe17l almdnsa witboct an 1 before a.
With due conalderation of these ccccients, ve find no objection to yoar
publication of this paper in a_V reputable scientific riedita on the nsval scientific
responsibility of the authors.
