on Smoking and Health, we su;gest tho follouing arrange:aant:
1. We will return to you at or pronptly after publication of
the report of the Surpeon General's Co:r,rtittee all but a liilitsd
number of conies needed to maintain our official files. At the
moment we believe that only tao copies will be necessary for
this purpose.
2. The copies that we retain :ri11 be kept on a confidential
basis to be used only for official Governr,ent purposes on a n3ed
to know basis. Any other requests or inquiries will be referred
to you.
3. The copies we shall keep will be marked and held as adminis-
trative-confidential docunents for as long as the 3urgeon 3ez~ral
may find necessary in connection :rith his Conunittee's report.
These copies will then be returned to you.
1~. In keeping with the prior understanding you had with our
Medical Coordinator, Dr. Hamill, we will advise you as to the
extent to which your Sbecial Report will be referred to or
