Dear Tom and Bob:
Attached are 4 short skeletal journalistic essays on
the present status of various fields in smoking and health
as I see them. Due to my new job it was not possible in
the alloted time to put in the necessary library research
to do scholarly reviews, which are what will be needed. '
If everyone interested will build upon or tear down
these initial drafts, or both, something useful should
emerge. I am sending copies to Drs, Jacobson and Loosli;
i and one to Sue Buckingham for criticism.
As to the deficiencies in present knowledge, I must
look at my own r3ports and think for awhile. The term gap
is inaccurate, inappropriate and misleading, if you look
in the dictionary, and I am not going to employ it any
further in this program. Using words that do not convey an
accurate meaning is a governmental habit that has gotten us
all in trouble.
