consultation by a fixed fee.
This fee will be figured at the rate of $15,000.00

an amount of $1,250.00. It is unde.-stood'that The Council
will rjake no withholdings for tax or Social Security alt:~ough
the fee will of course be reported at the end of the year to

All of us owe a great deal to Dr. Somzaers for his
outstanding leadership and service during the years he served as
Research Director. He gave generously of his time, often at great
sacrifice and inconvenience to himself. His wisdom, knowledge and
good humor helped enormously.

Dear C. C.s
I am indeed glad to hear that Sheldon Soammers
has accepted position as Research Director of CTR. It
will be good for th. parent organization, as well as for
the SAB. Possibly you may have gotten implications from
the copy of my letter of April 18 to him, which probably
crossed with your letter to me. iPhile I had no idea at
that time that the addition of him to the staff was in
the mill, I meant to go as far is might be proper in
indicating my judgment of his value to the organization.
In appreciation, and with best wishes.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Lynch, M. D.

Dear Pete:
I have your note of April 16th. I think it is
great that Charlie Sommers will devote part-time as
Research Director of CTR. It is a most logical choice
and I look forward with continued interest, to working
with the CTR staff and the SAB. -
He called me recently about the meeting in Washington,
D.C., at which Secretary Finch was present. From his
report it sounded as if it was a most sucessful discus-
sion concerning needs for further research on the relation-
ship ship of tobacco and health.
I, too, look forward to seeing you in May.
Most sincerely,
