CURRICULUM VITAE OF DR. KENNETH MERRILL LYNCH Dr. Kenneth Merrill Lynch, Chancellor and Professor of Pathology, Medical College of South Carolina, Charleston, was born in Hamilton County, Texas, on November 27, 1887. He received his M.D. from the University of Texas in 1910, and holds honorary degrees from the University of South Carolina, the College of Charleston and Clemson College. He served as Resident Pathologist at Philadelphia General Hospital in 1911 and as an Instructor in Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania, 19u-13• He became Professor of Pathology at the Medical College of South Carolina in 1913, Vice Dean in 1935, Dean in 1943, President and Dean of the Faculty in 1949, and Chancellor at retirement under the South Carolina State Retirement System in 1960. He was Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in World War I and was Medical Aide to the Governor of South Carolina in 1918. He was the recipient of the Gold Medal in the Scientific Exhibits of the American Medical Association in 1920 and of the Research Medal of the Southern Medical Association in 1921, as well as the Distinguished Service Award of the Southern Medical Associaticn in 1957 and the Distinguished Service Citation and Medal of the American Cancer Society in 1958. Dr. Lynch has held membership in the South Carolina State Board of Health 1935-44, of which he was Chairman 1940-44; the National Board of Medical Examiners (regional) 1935-42; the South Carolina Cancer Commission, of which he was Chairman 1939-''4. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, serving on its Board of Governors 1925-27 and 1936-47. Among the memberships and official positions in medical and scientific societies and organizations held by Dr. Lynch are the following: American Medical Association, Vice President 1935-36, and Chairman of the Section on Pathology 1924; the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, President, 1930-31; American Society of Tropical Medicine, President, 1930-31; South Carolina Medical Association, President 1930-31; Southern Medica: Association, Chairman of the Section on Pathology in 1925 and Councilor fer South Carolina, 1935-40; American Association of Pathologlsts and Bacteri- ologists; American Society of Cancer Research; American Cancer Society, member of the Board of Directors of the parent society, 1939-43; Public Health Service's National Advisory Neurological Diseases and Blindness Council, 1957-61. A former member of the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine, the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, and the American Journal of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, Dr. Lynch is the author of Protozoan Parasitism of the Alimentary Tract, The Macmillan Company, N.Y., 1930, and American Editor of Green s Manual of Patholo , Balliere, Tindall and Cox, London, and Wm.
