Dr. Julius Hiram Comx,e Jr., Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, vas born in York, Pennsylvania, on March 13, 1911. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Comroe formerly vas Chairman of the Depdrtment and Professor of Physiology and Phar- macology at the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Pennsyl- vania, until 1957. He vas also a Clinical Physiologist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Comroe received his M.D. there in 1934 and was a Commonvealth F'und Fellow at the National Institute of Medical Research in London in 1939. A promi- nent educator, he has been Associate Editor of the American JournaLl of Physiology since 1948 (Consulting Editor since 195 , and Associate Editor of Pharmacologic Reviews (1949-50)• His career includes service as Chairman, in 1953, of the First Teaching Institute of the Associated American Medical Colleges. Since 1953 he has been a member of the United States Public Health Service Pharmacology Study Section, a Consultant at the Naval Avia- tion Medical Acceleration Laborator;, Consultant in Pulmonary Phys:- ology to Veterans' Administration, a member of the Co®ittee (1953-58) on Research of the American Medical Association Council on Pharmacy, and a Fellov of the American College of Physicians and of the Ame:-:- can Association for Advancement of Science. Dr. Comroe holds member- ship in the Ame^ ca.n Physiological Society, the American Society fcr Pharmacology and FScperimental Therapeutics (Council 1953-56), the Philadelphia Physiclo3ical Society (President 19k8-49), the American Society of Clinical Investigat'_on and Harvey Society (honorary meaber;.
