FASEB Newletter December 1990 FASEB President Dr. Thomas Edgington Elected to Research!America Board Mary Wooley Elected President and CEO to Replace Weicker FASEB President Thomas S. Edgington, MD, has been elected to the board of directors of Research! America. Dr. Edgington, professor in the Department of Immu- nology at the Research Institute of Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California, is past-president of AAP. Research!America is a non-profit, tax-exempt or- ganization formed to promote public awareness of the benefits to humankind of medical research. It is the nation's largest organization devoted to building sup- port for medical research into both physical and mental diseases. Its more than 130 institutional members in- clude voluntary health agencies, colleges and universi- ties, professional societies, corporations, foundations and philanthropists. Also elected to the board of directors were Dr. Robert Petersdorf, president of the Association of Ameri- can Medical Colleges and Dr: Richard Cohen, current president of the American Federation for Clinical Re- search. Whitehead, chairman of the board of Research!America, also an- nounced that Mary Wooley has been elected president and chief executive officer of the organization. America on January 1, succeeding Lowell Weicker, Jr., who has been elected governor of Connecticut. Weicker has been conferred the title of honorary member of the board.
