University of Wisconsin Medical School Department of Medicine f PETER I. LELKES, Ph.D. Associate Professor Director, Laboratory of Ce11. Biology (414) 283-7651 October 10, 1991 Dr. Harmon C. McAllister The Council for Tobacco Research 900 Third Avenue New York, NY 10022 / L/V - ` - , Milwaukee Clinical Campus 414 283 7651 - FAX 414 283 7874 re: Subgroup Specialty Symposium. on "Endothelial Cell Heterogeneity and Organspecificity" at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology, Boston, MA, December 8, 1991. Dear Dr. McAllister, As you may be aware, I'm organizing a subgroup. specialty symposium on "Endothelial Cell . Heterogeneity and Organspecificity" prior to the Annual Meeting. of the American Society of Cell Biology (ASCB), Boston, MA, December 8, 1991. The topic of this symposium is important and timely, since many aspects of "Endothelial Cell .Biology'"; have become the focus of today's basic and. . applied research in cellular biology. For your information, I include a list of the invited (and confirmed) speakers to this symposium as-well as-a recent editorial Vwrote on this theme. The issue of endothelial cell heterogeneity and organspecificity is of particular interest for many of the potential clinical applications, be it passivation of blood contacting surfaces, seeding of vascular grafts, specific targeting of drugs for accurate pharmacological .interventions, gene-therapy, etc. Since. I am aware of you and your companies interest in endothelial cell research, I am writing to you to a). invite representatives of your company to participate in the symposium and b) to ask for a financial contribution which would help to defray some of the costs. As you may know, the ASCB sponsors these subgroup symposia, but does not contribute in any way to the costs for bringing together an excellent rostrum of speakers. Therefore, your corporate sponsorship is very much needed and appreciated in these times of tightening budgets. I would be grateful if you could: make out your check to the "University of Wisconsin Medical School, Milwaukee Clinical Campus, Dept. Medicine, Lab. Cell Biology", earmarked for the , ASCB Symposium. Thank you in advance for your generous contribution. Sincerely, ~ Peter-I. Lelkes, Ph.D., Associate Professor Director, Laboratory. of Cell Biology SINAI SAMARITAN MEDICAL CENTER • SINAI CAMPUS • 950 NORTH TWELbTH ST. • P.O. BOX 342 • MILWAUKEE. WI 53`101-0342
