OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR
July 11, 1967
Mr. W. T. Hoyt, Executive Director
Council for Tobacco Research-USA

Dear Tom:
By paying attention to Miss Hills, you asked for it:
So, you will have to read what the boyhood home-town
paper said, in a special second section front page. It is
a xeroxed copy, because I have only one of the original--
for a scrapbook. Pictures don't xerox, of course, but the
ghost shown may not be inappropriate.
,Liz.:
You would not, of course, think of showing it to Miss
The-whole thing really surprised me. I had thought
that the University of Texas had crossed me off for turning
down the deanship there in order to carry out the mission
I had accepted in benighted South Carolina. "What fools
we mortals be:"
They really rolled out the red carpet. The Ashbel
Smith Medallion (Dr. Ashbel Smith is called the "Father
of the University of Texas") Award for Distinguished
Service to Medici.ne may well b~e my 'highlight of the twilight.
Lyall and I do hope that you can take that relaxing
vacation.
Our best,
U5
Kenneth M. Lynch, M. D.
