You Write Us / Objection The California E-nlpllryee Yhar- macist Association must take ex- ception to Charles E.Sharek's letter advocating restoration of the 4-year pharmacy curriculnm. We feel that the future of Ilharmac\ can best be servecl by raising the profetisiunal status of the pharmacist. To do this, we need more education, not les-,. True, 1>harmacy education must be continually reviewecl. revised. and revanlllecl. Irrelevant cuurtet, shr, tiltl be dropped and pertinent new cuurse~, added. Ilnt we will never gain the prufe<tiirmal statuz- nrnr enj"NTcl by the olxontetrist.,. luxliatrists, and deaitist.s if -,ve opt for a les~-e<lucated llharmacist. CEP.A feels there may be a sur- plus of drug strrre,, rather than a shortage of 1>harniacist~. We believe that the llrufe.,~.ion should aim for duality rather than quantity. Hopefully. sometltic, when Nre do achieve increased professional sta- tu~,. the pharmacists of many area~, of America will be liberatecl from the liqu,rr, ttty~,, cigars, and cos- metics, The~, »•ill be in the prescrip- tion clellartment> practicing their profession. hE\\ETH -;. However, I understood that you represent druggists and wonder when vou received the authority to support pharmacists. "This thought may sound silly, but it should suggest what NAKD and APhA are doing to pharmacy. There is no doubt that you both accomplish much in our favor, but if onl%- .•ou would merge and really represent pharmacy, then the mem- bership would be closer to 100 ~,', [giving us] unity, power, influence and effectiveness, and the resulting • organization would be supported b-, the rank and file. As it now stands, the support to both organizations is half-hearted and engenders leth- argy, to the detriment of all. "So if N•ou could stop 'cutting off your noses to sl» te your faces', may- be pharntacy could have a future! Bickering, infighting, pri(le, and prejudices have no place in effective organizations. t nit)• is what we need and if you are big enough men. pharmacy can have dominion anrl poWer over the practice of phar- macy.
