'I do more
than fill
prescriptions'
Shane Roy has served
as mayor, alderman,
pharmacy board head
Many pharmacists believe they
should do more for their communi-
ties than fill prescriptions. Shane
Roti, o«ner of the Ro~~ Drug Store,
in Bro~nstiille, Tenn, feels that the
pharmacist-as a professional man
-should "take part in as much of
his community's activities as he pos-
sibl. can."
Mr. Rov told AMERICA:: DRi'G-
GIST that his involvement in c1Clc,
political, professional, and service
activities has done "much to im-
prove the image of Pharmacy in my
town."
Among Mr. Rov's "extra-curric-
.ular activities are :"
Political-2 terms as 'Ma.or
and 2 terms as Alderman in hiS
community.
Professional - Past president
of the Tennessee board of pharmacy
and active member of his state and
national pharmaceutical associa-
t 10n 5.
Community - Past president
of the Chamber of Commerce and
Rotary Club, chairman of school
board, and member of a committee
organized to attract new industry to
~
the town.
Mr. Roy says that the latter ac-
tivity has resulted in bringing in ;
or 6 new industries to the area.
( Formerl\, Brownsville had been
strictly a farming community. J Oh-
viously, this has brought more jol,~,
into the area and more people into
the comnnmiriy-which, in turn,
benefits everyone in the area, he
concludes.
In recognition of his man\- acti\-i-
ties in behalf of his community, M r.
Roy recently was presented with the
A. H. Robins "Bowl of Hygeia"
a,~lard" , PI I,~J
