Penicillin plus probenecid helps clear up gonorrhea U of Oregon researchers report that a single dose of the combo cured all 188 women in test No failures were reported in treatment of 188 women hospital- ized Nvith gonorrhea when they were treated .vith a single dose of peni- cillin G plus probenecid or ampi- cillin with or without probenecid, say a group of researchers led bv Dr. David W. Johnson of the U of Oregon Medical School, Portland. Eighty Filipino women with asymptomatic gonorrhea were treated with 6-million units of peni- cillin plus I gm oral probene_id. Thev -were then observed for 7 davs. After 6 gonorrhea-negati.•e cultures were taken from them, they were released. Treatment was successful in all of these patients. A second group of 108 patients was given oral doses of 3.5 gm am- picillin. Along with the ampicillin therapy, 74 were given 1 gm pro- benecid. The remaining 34 received only the ampicillin. Treatment was successful in 100 1,'c of both groups.
