Kohnhor t. Dr, R. A. Sanford.~Mr. M. L. Reynolds,
Mr. P. R. Fisher~--- ~
I spore with Dr. Leake concernfng the Industry Technical Committee
meeting scheduled for October ii, 1983, Washington D.C. Topics to be
discussed at that meeting are: the proposed TITL move, salary proposals,
and the pesticide questions raised by the Rose amendment.
The meeting is no longer a short luncheon affair. Mr. Kornegay of the
Tobacco Institute has now asked for additional background information on
pesticides used in other tobacco growing areas outside the U.g. Preston
thought that B&W might be able to develop considerable information
through its BAT contact. Only published information is pertinent,
inhouse information would be of little value.
I suggested that members of Coresta might have considerable information,
Coresta has had a eo,unittee devoted to pesticides for a good number of
years. Preston said he would follow this up possibly with a Philip Morris
representative.
Mr. Kornegay has arranged for Dr. Sheets (N.C. State). Dr. Keller
(formally of N.C. State), Mr. Kiger (Exportors Association), and
Dr. Jim Davis (U.S.D.A.) to attend the Washington meeting to help the
Technical Co~m, ittee develop background on the pesticide question.
Preston now sees the meeting divided i~to two parts, l) pesticide, and
2) normal tobacco Industry Technical Committee meeting.
The meetlmg will be held in the Gourmet Restaurant of the Eyatt Regency
Crystal City.
