Transmits Ford's memo "intended to describe the various CTR-sponsored projects concerning the action of nicotine (referred to as the CNS work)" including statement about contibutions of smoking to "individuals in their daily life". Indicates, per Washington meeting, Council for Tobacco Research (CTR) member companies agreed that "with the exception of the work being done by Dr. Abood", CNS studies have commercial development implications and are "not be conducted under CTR auspices". Ford to. Addison. Yeaman is intended to describe the
various CTRUsponsored projects concerning the action
of nicotine (:referred to as the CNS work). Dr. Ford
has al~o appended a short statement of his idea, of
how this work relates to the q~estion of what smoking
contributes to individuals in their daily life.
At a meeting in, Wash,ington. last Thursday,
counsel for all of the member companies of CTR were
of the: view that, with the exception, of the work being~
done by Dr. Abood, the CNS studies have potential
implications in the area, of commercial development.
and should, therefore, not be conducted under CTR
auspices~. This message was: to be conveyed to
Mr. Yeaman by Ernie Pepples and supported! by Ed Jacob
who is counsel to. CTR. We expect a. report of the:
reaction: of Mr. Yeaman and Dr. Gardner in the near
future.
