The attached memo dated March i0 from Dr. D. H.
Ford to Addison Yeaman is intended to describe the
various CTR-sponsored projects concerning the action
of nicotine (referred to as the CNS work). Dr. Ford
has also appended a short statement of his idea of
how this work relates to the question of what smoking
contributes to individuals in their daily life.
At a meeting in Washington last Thursday,
counsel for all of the member companies of CTR were
of the view that, with the exception of the work being
done by Dr. Abood, the CNS studies have potential
implications in the area of commercial development
and should, therefore, not be conducted under CTR
auspices. This message was to be conveyed to
Mr. Yeaman by Ernie Pepples and supported by Ed Jacob
who is counsel to CTR. We expect a report of the
reaction of Mr. Yeaman and Dr. Gardner in the near
future.
