Gentlemen:
In accordance with the discussionson April 27, 1981, I am
submitting the protocol that was agreed upon at that meeting.
along with the Company literature pertaining to your project.
It is my understanding that you will review the literature
and then submit to me a fairly comprehen,sive protocol for
your project along with a request for the dosimeters you
will require to complete the evaluation. I will purchase
the dosimeters and reship them to you.
PROTOCOL
Purpose of Study
To evaluate commercially available dosimeters for th,e deter-
mination, of certain constituents of environmental cigarette
smoke,, namely,
formaldehyde
nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide
carbon monoxide
ammonia
hydrogen cyanide

Some Essentials of the Study
I. The sensitivity (lower limit)of each dosimeter for a
specific constituent will be determined.
2. Thee duration of effectiveness of each dosimeter will be
determined.

3. Effect of smoke on dosimeter performance will be studied,
i.e., will the dosimeter function satisfactorily in a smoking
environment as effectively as in a non-smoking environment.
4. Reproducibility of data from ~=ifferent dosimeters in a
batch, and from different batches will be determined,.
5. Confirmation of data using independent analytical pro-
cedures will be included in the project.
6. Determine reusability of dosimeters where applicable.
