I have been hoping to discuss this matter ~-.~;!'~[~at a General Counsel meeting but a combination of bad weather and i~.~i;.-¢., long agendas has made this impossible. I mention it in the hope _i~iiS~that we will be able to reach the question of the Research Liaison "~~";~. For example, ;!/.. : according to a recent sheet distributed by Leonard Zahn, Dr. ...~,- Peter Bourne is to be a discussant at a session on ,The Relation- : ship Between the Health Care Environment and Human Behavior" ".~. during the AAAS meeting February 12-17. Franmeni is speaking on . ~,-.. "Epidemiological Studies" at a Symposium on Fundamental Cancer R~search March 1-3 in Houston. Shubik will be at the same conference giving a paper on "Animal Test Models" and Higginson will speak on "Present and Future Perspectives in Environmental Carcinogenesis.". The Banff International Conference on Behavior Modification set for March 19-23 at Alberta, Canada, will have as a speaker Stanley Schachter. His topic: "Smoking is an Addiction." ' We have been unable to visit with Dr. Huber in Boston because of weather conditions. I have, how6~r~--s~gested to him that he talk with Henry Meadow, attorney for the Medical School, about the situation at Charlesgate. Dr. Huber will advise Mr. Meadow that the checks are being held because of the inadequacy of facilities at Charlesgate and on account of lease uncertainties. ' Dr. Huber has agreed to conduct a two-hour presentation at an American ~horacic Society/American Lung Association meeting in May. There will be several participants, who will discuss the status of tobacco research in the fields of cancer, cardiovascular disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Dr. ~uber also contemplates a section on the nonsmoker and tobacco smoke.
