EXPOSURE TO A CIGARETTE-SMOKE-FILLED ATMOSPHERE CONTAINING 38 PPM CARBON
MONOXIDE (CO), AND THE "PUZZLING" IACK OF A SIGNIFICANT RELATION, FOR
NONSMOKERS, BETWEEN THE AMOUNT OF CO ABSORBED AND DURATION OF EXPOSURE
COULD BE EXPLAINED BY A CONSTITUTIONAL HYPOTHESIS: "THE HIGHER COHB FOR
SMOKERS THAN FOR NON-SMOKERS...IS INFLUENCED SIGNIFICANTLY BY THE INDIVIDUAL
CONSTITUTION OR GEN.OTYPE WHICH AFFECTS BOTH SMOKING BEHAVIOUR AND
EFFICIENCY OF DETOXIFICATION.OF CO AND COHB,"

OF "PRIMARY" WITH THOSE OF "SECONDARY" PIPE AND CIGAR SMOKERS (DEFINED
ACCORDING TO WHETHER THEY WERE NOT OR WERE FORMER CIGARETTE SMOKERS,
RESPECTIVELY), ALTHOUGH THESE lATTER AUTHORS ATTRIBUTE THE DIFFERENCES
IN CO~B LEVELS TO DEGREE OF INHALATION, IT IS CONTENDED THAT THESE
