The objective of th~s experimmt was to compare the t~oriKenlc
a~:¢ivitle8 of the condensate8 from eLK•reties made £rom PCL, and £rom
;:.safeties conta£ni=8 IA~TLAJ2, with that of the condensate from
~:..sarette8 contain/~$ the blend from which the ~ was made. An
,~itpainced acetone control group of animals was also included in Chls
~_~peri~eut to monitor the spontaneous skin turnout rate of the animals
~,:i ng used.
DESIGN OF ZX~n .~r
The control c£8arettas were made from flue-cured tobacco cuc at
~ cuts per inch for the lamlna and 160-180 cuts per inch for the
~.:e~; the 1ms;ha to stem ratio in the cigarettes was 60/AO. The PCL
~as cuC at 80 cuts per inch. The BATIrLA~ wee blended with the stem/
~,,~ina and 8o was cut ac 60 cuts per inch. All ciKarette$ were 70 mm
L~ length and 25 mm in c£rc,-sFerence, and were ~rapped in )ollor6 015
:,:~se paper. No f~lter tlp8 ere used.
Two version of BAT~A~ were used. The first, labelled 'A*
L~t th£u experiment, was Hark £ BATFLAKE containing 12Z o~ cellulosic
~,~er. The second, labelled 'BY in this e~peri~ent, ~a8 • modified
arsion of Mark I BATTLAI~ s~d contained 2~Z o£ cellulosic binder.
version 'Av was used at two inclusion levels, 251 and 5OZ of cigarette
~ei~ht. Version 'B' was used at one /~cluslon level, ~0~ of ciKarette
~iKht.
