MALAWI - Sun-Cured, 1971 crop. Eight samples (R489-155 through 162)
received from Csrrtngton $~ l~¢hauxo Not attractive es sub-
stitute for Green River due to high price and limited supply, Reported to
files on June 11, 1971. S~,ples have been subjected to accelerated aging
and are being held for possible tests as a component of new smokes tobacco
products.
BRAZIL - Air-Cured, Santa Caterlna, 1970/71 crop. Two samples, Grades
ELL and ELP (R489-171 and 172) received from Mr. Walker, reference
his memorandum of July i, 1971. Good color, body and texture upon dnspectfon.
Blend of the two samples has been incorporated In ROI-TAN 85 mm Llttle ClEars
blend as a substitute for all brfs. Preliminary smoke panel data indicate that
the blend contalning the Brazilian aEr-cu~ed tobacco has luferlor Mmoke taste
in comparison to the control.
M OZA~_I~ - ~en samples of flue-cured and El samples of Burley received
from Carrimgton snd ~chaux. Reference letter from Mr. T. C. G,
Cardozo, dated August 26. 1971. Analyses in progress. Following samples re-
talned as of interest to New Products: Flue-Cured Grades S2H, EEL, D2, VM;
Burley Grades KIB, L5. and KS2. Note that prices quoted do not include duty
and proposed 10% surcharge on ~mports.
SOUTH AFRICA - Four samples of flue-cured, 1969 crop. Same reference as above.

BLENDED STRIP - One sample, Grade aBE, blend vf off-shore and U.S. flue-cured.
